PRESS RELEASE
FUEL ADULTERATION
Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS)
wishes to inform the general public, and
in particular the petroleum industry
businessmen that stern measures will as
from now be taken against all those
found dispensing adulterated products.
According to surveillance inspections
which have been going on countrywide,
adulteration of fuels has grown to
alarming proportions. The problem is
mostly due to mixing of petrol or diesel
with kerosene. TBS has been serving
warning notices to those found selling
substandard products once samples have
been tested and found not to comply with
the national standards for petrol and
diesel.
Following reports that the Minister for
Industry, Trade and Marketing could not
attend his scheduled duties due to
adultered fuel in Iringa, TBS
immediately dispatched inspectors to
collect samples for technical testing.
Laboratory results have shown that the
fuel was mixed with water. TBS has
already forwarded these results to EWURA
for further actions, who have in turn
suspended the licence of the operator
under the TOTAL Company. At the same
time, surveillance samples are being
colleted countrywide, to net all those
selling adulterated products.
This notice is therefore intended to
warn businessmen to refrain from selling
substandard petrol/diesel; since once
caught; they will no longer be spared.
TBS would also wish to thank consumers
who have been alerting us once they
suspect dubious petrol stations selling
adulterated fuels.
TBS wishes to encourage consumers, and
good petroleum dealers to continue
providing information which will help in
netting all those doing unclean
business.
