TBS approves 22 products
Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS)
has approved the quality of 22 products
manufactured within and outside the
country.
In a ceremony held at TBS headquarters
recently, Acting Director Charles
Ekelege issued 16 standards marks
licenses, two license extensions and
four tested product certificates to
various manufacturers.
Under the Standards Mark Scheme,
manufacturers are licensed to use the
“tbs” standards mark of quality on their
products after the products are proved
to conform to the required national
standards.
Manufacturers issued with license
extensions are those who have introduced
new product brands on top of the
previous approved ones; and TBS grants
tested product certificates to products
tested and approved against
international standards, foreign
standards or company specifications.
Manufacturers granted with standards
mark licenses in the latest function are
Brookside Dairy Tanzania Limited, Moshi
Urban Water Supply and Sewerage
Authority (MUWASA), Sayona Drinks
Limited, Tanga Pharmaceutical and
Plastics Limited, ABB Tanelec Limited
and Tanzania Distilleries Limited.
Others are Hengan Sanitary and Baby
Products Company Limited, Jumbo Mills
(T) Limited, Mukwano Personal Care
Products Limited-Kampala, Fibreboards
(2000) Limited, D. Chandulal Kl Vora (T)
Limited, Simba Steels Limited, Frabho
Enterprises, Yakilila Food Products,
Kilimanjaro Cables (T) Ltd and Planet
Automotive (PTE) Ltd.
Under the license extension category,
manufacturers granted licences are
Megatrade Investments Limited and Tanga
Pharmaceutical and Plastics Limited,
while those granted with tested products
certificates are Brookside Dairy
Tanzania Limited, ABB Tanelec Limited,
Fibreboads (2000) Limited and
Sino-Tanzania Fuwang Food and Beverage
Co. Ltd.
The products covered are yoghurt,
potable drinking water, ready to drink
beverages, cream, hand and body lotion,
distribution transformers, table wine,
sanitary towel, wheat flour, sodium
hypochlorite solution, treated wood
poles, reinforcement steel bars, cashew
kernels, banana and rosella wine, PVC
insulated, inspected used motor
vehicles, cultured milk, low and medium
voltage switch gear, system voltage up
to 24kVA, ice lollies, potable spirit
and petroleum jelly.
Speaking during the function, Mr.
Ekelege urged the manufacturers to
ensure that their products always
conform to respective standards or
specifications.
