TBS to open border offices
The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) will open
offices at border areas to enhance its imports
inspection.
TBS Acting Director Charles Ekelege revealed this on
Friday, May 18, during the function to issue
licences to three clients, which took place at TBS.
He said from July 1, 2007, TBS will be having
offices in Holili (Kilimanjaro), Namanga (Arusha),
Horohoro (Tanga), Tunduma (Mbeya), Sirari (Mara) and
at the Dar es Salaam Port.
He said this will make TBS more efficient in dealing
with imports in order to make sure that poor quality
imports don’t enter the local market.
The clients granted licences to use the TBS
Standards Mark of Quality during the function were
WTM Utility Services of Essex, UK, Jaffar Mohamed
Ali Garage of Dubai, UAE and Jabal Kilimanjaro Auto
Elect. Mech. & Paints of Sharjah.
All the three clients were licenced for compliance
with the requirements of Tanzania Standard TZS 698:
2003, Road vehicles-Code
of practice for inspection and testing of used motor
vehicles for road worthiness.
Earlier in his introduction, Head of Certification
Section Eng. Joshua Katabwa said the three companies
add to two companies already certified to inspect
used motor vehicles, which he mentioned as Japan
Auto Appraisal Institute of Tokyo, Japan and Total
Automotive Service of Dubai, UAE.
