Improve
packages- Mramba
The Minister for Industry, Trade and
Marketing Hon. Basil Mramba has called
upon Tanzania Bureau of Standards to
improve packages of the products packed
by the Small and Medium producers in the
country.
Hon. Mramba made the remark recently
during the Northern Zone Small
Industries Development Organization
exhibition in Kilimanjaro region.

Mramba said most of the producers lack
packaging skills which through TBS, they
can be imparted with, hence improve
their packages.
Most of the products produced by
Tanzanians have good qualities but poor
packages. This has adverse effects in
the international markets. Urgent
measures should be taken to ensure that
packages are of high quality so as to
compete in the local and international
markets.
However, TBS is finalizing the
construction of a Packaging Technology
Centre (PTC) which its main objective is
to train Industrialists in structural
and graphic design of packages.
Another objective of PTC is to provide
testing services for the packaging
materials and packages. The qualities of
packaging materials have to be tested.
The PTC testing service will be full
operational in the next financial year.
The procurement of the packaging
equipment for the Centre has been
facilitated by the government of
Tanzania and the development partners
specifically the government of Denmark
through Danida and the government of
Switzerland through UNIDO.
