AGRO-food processing industry has been urged to comply with internal and external trade requirements so as to access both domestic and international markets.

Dr. Turuka said the government appreciates the opportunity for Tanzania’s food processing industry personnel to be trained and facilitated to implement the requirements of ISO 22000 in the respective industries.

The three-day training course organized and sponsored by UNIDO, TBS and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) drew participants from food manufacturing industries in the country.

Dr. Turuka said the development of agriculture, especially agro-food processing industry, has been and will continue to be an important overarching development of Tanzania for a long time

He said the two important overarching development frameworks of Tanzania development vision 2025 (TDV 2025) and the National Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP), provide the basis for addressing agro-food processing issues in the country.

ISO 22000: 2005, Food safety management systems - Requirements for any organization in the food chain, is designed to allow all types of organizations within the food chain to implement a food safety management system.

It also harmonizes the requirements for systematically managing safety in food supply chains and offers a unique solution for good practice on a worldwide basis.
