Ministry urges
compliance with agro-food industry
requirements
AGRO-food processing industry has been
urged to comply with internal and
external trade requirements so as to
access both domestic and international
markets.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary for the
Ministry of Industry, Trade and
Marketing Dr. Florance Turuka made the
remark recently on behalf of the
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Stergomena Tax
during the closing of the ceremony of
the UNIDO/TBS, ISO 22000 Basic Training
Course held at the Land Mark Hotel in
Dar es Salaam.
Dr. Turuka said the government
appreciates the opportunity for
Tanzania’s food processing industry
personnel to be trained and facilitated
to implement the requirements of ISO
22000 in the respective industries.
The three-day training course organized
and sponsored by UNIDO, TBS and the
Swiss State Secretariat for Economic
Affairs (SECO) drew participants from
food manufacturing industries in the
country.
Dr. Turuka said the development of
agriculture, especially agro-food
processing industry, has been and will
continue to be an important overarching
development of Tanzania for a long time
He said the two important overarching
development frameworks of Tanzania
development vision 2025 (TDV 2025) and
the National Strategy for Growth and
Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP), provide
the basis for addressing agro-food
processing issues in the country.
ISO 22000: 2005, Food safety management
systems - Requirements for any
organization in the food chain, is
designed to allow all types of
organizations within the food chain to
implement a food safety management
system.
It also harmonizes the requirements for
systematically managing safety in food
supply chains and offers a unique
solution for good practice on a
worldwide basis.
