TBS issues licences,
certificates to new clients
Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has
issued 31 quality licences and
certificates to various manufacturers
within and outside the country for
compliance with standards.
The licences and certificates were
issued by TBS Director, Mr. Charles
Ekelege in a ceremony that took place at
TBS headquarters in Dar es Salaam, on
Friday, July 18, 2008.
Mr. Ekelege issued 24 standards marks
licenses, four tested products
certificates and three license
extensions.

Under standards mark licenses, the
manufacturers are required to use “tbs”
mark on their products because they
conform to the relevant national
standards. Manufacturers issued with
license extensions are those who have
introduced new product brands on top of
the previous approved ones, while Tested
Product Certificates are granted for
products approved using international,
foreign or company specifications.
Manufacturers granted with standards
mark licenses in the ceremony include
Osambi Timber & Steel Hardware Limited,
Al-Hamum Company Ltd, Kalali Women Dairy
Cooperative Society, Kitindi Company,
21st Century Food & Packaging Ltd,
TAWOSA Mills, Afri Youth Development
Services, Tanzania Packages
Manufacturers (1998) Ltd, Upendo Group,
and Shesi Holdings.
Others are Zanzibar Tea Packers,
Bakhresa Food Products Ltd, Minjingu
Mines & Fertilizer Company, Mwanza
Quality Wines, Murzah Soap and
Detergents Ltd, Jeam’s Products,
Kilimanjaro Natural Food Cooperative (KNFC),
Karex Industries Sdn. Bhd c/o Population
Services International, Kama Herbal
Products Ltd and East African Polybags
Industries Ltd.
Under license extensions category,
manufacturers are Mama’s Fresh Produce,
Chemi & Cotex Industries Ltd and Mamujee
Products Limited.
Mountain Green, Afri Youth Development
Services and Hanspaul Industries Limited
were issued with tested product
certificates.
The products covered are concrete blocks
and sand cement blocks, ready to drink
beverages (mango, orange & pineapple
juice), herbal soap (Aloe Vera), butter,
maize flour, finger millet flour, honey
(stinging bee honey), B-Twill jute bags,
laundry soap, mbilimbi pickle, roasted &
ground coffee, blended tea, ready to
drink beverages and fertilizer powder (Minjingu
organic hyper phosphate+).
Others are pineapple wine (jema wine),
plastic carrier bags, rosella wine (jema
wine), dried banana, natural latex
rubber condoms, potable spirit (Raj
Brandy), jatropha herbal soap, plastic
carrier bags.
Other products are cultured milk, pilau
masala, cinnamon, corrugated fibreboard
boxes, mango pickle, toothpaste (Whitedent
Gel, Whitedent Herbal, Whitedent Three
in one Stripe) and petroleum jelly (Viocare,
Madame, Boss Exclusive, Black
Professional & Body Magic Brands).
Speaking during the ceremony, Mr.
Ekelege urged new clients to abide by
the respective standards, while also
ensuring them that with the TBS
standards mark of quality they will be
sure of expanding their markets inside
and outside the country.
He added that TBS would strive to
safeguard the domestic market from the
influx of substandard products.
