Dr. Nagu said the move is important for
all stakeholders as Tanzania is moving
towards the East Africa Common Market,
while also striving to win the European
Union market.
She said the government through Tanzania
Bureau of Standards (TBS), has started
to educate and sensitize on food safety
and quality among those engaged in raw
food business throughout Tanzania.
"We have directed TBS to offer services
for raw food sellers on quality issues
for free, therefore you need to improve
your products and market areas so as to
meet the required standards,” she
insisted.
Three TBS experts in the areas of food
safety and packaging made presentations.
Mr. David Ndibalema presented a paper on
the basics of food safety and quality,
Dr. Claude Mosha gave an overview of TBS
and its activities, while Mr. Hamisi
Sudi presented a paper on quality
packaging.
The seminar drew 56 representatives from
markets and business officers from
Manyara, Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions.
