March 2010 Dealers in petroleum products urged
to adhere to
standards Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has
called upon dealers in petroleum products to
adhere to national standards prescribing quality
and safety requirements in the
sector.
TBS Director, Mr. Charles Ekelege, made the
appeal during the grant of licences ceremony held
at TBS offices in Dar es Salaam recently, urging
the dealers to collect standards from TBS and
implement them accordingly.

Standard for cells and
batteries undergoes
revision Tanzania Bureau of
Standards is overseeing the revision of the
Tanzania Standard for primary
batteries.
The Cells and Batteries
Technical Committee met recently under the
chairmanship of Engineer Simon Kabingo from the
Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT), to
discuss the proposed changes to the standard as

Bureau issues a biannual bulletin 'Announcer'
that gives details of standards
published by TBS, International
Organization for Standardization (ISO),
Codex Alimentarius Commission
(CAC), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and other International and
national standards bodies
abroad. | |

Tanzania Bureau of Standards is the
National Enquiry Point for WTO-TBT Agreements in
Tanzania. NEP handles information on technical
regulations and standards adopted or proposed to be
adopted and conformity assessment procedures adopted or
proposed to be
adopted | |

In
its efforts to support a coordinated development of the
packaging industry by strengthening the existing
standardization and testing capability in the area of
packaging, the government of Tanzania through Tanzania
Bureau of Standards (TBS) has established the Packaging
Technology Centre
(PTC). | |

TBS
runs radio program 'VIWANGO' and spots advertisement
through both print and electronic media aiming at
educating the general public on benefits of
standardization. |
